Free trees for your next landscaping project

Every year for the past few years state and local governments departments of environmental protection, department of agriculture, forestry or fish and wildlife services have been running programs to give away free trees to residents. This helps to help beautify the environment, restore trees lost to weather emergencies or fires, and clean he air. Here’s what you need to do to get your trees for free.
First off you need to find out whether your state or city is running a free trees program
The programs that used to be run by the USDA are now run by the National Association of State Forestries. You’ll need to find your state’s forestry program for details. Finding your states forestry program site is the easy part. Just visit the US forestry service page and click on your state in the big map. From there it gets a little tricky. The easiest way to find out about your state program is to call or email the contact in the green box on the lower right of the page and ask about your state’s program.
Not every state has a program to give away trees
But many states do have free trees programs, and if your doing a landscaping project or need to replace a few trees, it’s worth checking to see if you can get your trees for free. This year the NJ forestry service is running their program through the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. It took a little digging to get this page so if you’re in NJ that link will take you to the page on when and where to pick up free trees in your county. If you’re not in New Jersey just call or email your state service and they’ll help you find the resource for your area.
