Our favorite indoor plant right now – you’ll never guess
December 28, 2016Do you have a favorite indoor plant?
Indoor plants all do something different. Whether their specialty is cleaning the air, or just completing the look of a room, and if you have a lot like we do, (no, really, it’s like almost an unhealthy number. Indoor plants out number people more than ten to one in our home) , it’s hard to play favorites. It’s super hard to choose just one leaf baby as your favorite indoor plant, right? I mean, they all have their individual needs and are beautiful in their own way. It’s just so hard to choose!
Then again… maybe we do have a favorite indoor plant
Sure, every indoor plant has it’s time to shine, and maybe each and leaf baby can have it’s own turn to be our favorite. Back in November, when our red, pink and white Christmas cacti started blooming, it was our favorite indoor plant.
Or way back in October, when our lime tree started blooming, it was our favorite indoor plant
Before that… Whelp, in spring, summer and early fall, most of the leaf babies have outside places, and our permanent indoor plants, well, unfortunately play second banana, so, our indoor favorites at that point would be the extra special plants that need the least attention.
But now…
It’s December and the poinsettia are all decked out and they look so pretty. But if someone tells us poinsettia are poisonous we’re going to lose our cool. Seriously, poinsettias are just not poisonous. Sorry, not sure why it’s such a sensitive subject… Guess it’s just hard to tolerate recurring ignorance.
Soon our attention will change though
We haven’t seen the worst of winter yet, but the seed catalogs are coming and we’ve already got the big thaw on our mind. Seed exchanges are starting up left and right, and in a month or so, the garden centers will all start setting up their start up gardening displays. And then our focus will be on the newest starts and sprouts
What will we start, what will we plant, what will our layouts look like? Some folks spend winter dreaming of a white Christmas, but for us gardeners, alottmenteers and all around plant nerds, we’re dreaming what we’re dreaming of the next time we’re going to be able to get dirt under our fingernails.
